International Conference on Teaching and Learning with Technology (ICTLT) 2018

On 31 May 2018, Mrs Tan-Lim Bee Kee and Mr Chan Jia Kun Jason presented at the International Conference on Teaching and Learning with Technology (ICTLT) 2018 on behalf of Dunman High School’s Humanities Department (Junior High). The conference was held at the Resorts World Convention Centre. The paper presentation was titled: “Promoting Character and Citizenship Education through Advocacy Videos.” It showcased an alternative method to inculcate values through an advocacy video project. The use of videos to tell meaningful stories was a powerful medium to engage the minds and hearts of the students.

The paper highlighted how the advocacy video project gave students the opportunity to actively experiment in making society and the world around them a better place. The advocacy video project not only made learning highly personalised but also enabled the students to find meaning and personal connections to the many socio-economic issues confronting them. This is a platform in our Active Citizenry Education syllabus for students to engage with social issues close to their hearts. Through this platform, students are motivated to take actions to try to do their part in making a difference in society. In doing so, we hope to develop a deeper sense of empathy in our Dunmanians and nurture them to be more caring, creative and critical individuals.
