Dialogue session with Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong
On 17 November 2018, a group of Year 5 Dunmanians attended a dialogue session with Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong at the Joo Chiat Community Club.
During the lively session filled with humour and laughter, ESM Goh spoke on a myriad of topics, ranging from the decision-making process behind his choice of not accepting the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations to the Fourth Generation leaders of Singapore. In addition, ESM Goh, hoping to understand the perspectives of today’s young people, invited the students to share their opinions on issues such as ageing population and the education system.
It was a rare opportunity for the students to get up close and personal with Singapore’s second Prime Minister, and to hear from him first hand his personal experiences. Through the sharing, the students gained a deeper understanding of what makes Singapore ticks and the evolving challenges of governance.
At the end of the session, ESM Goh expressed his wish for a thinking population of Singaporeans, who would make informed decisions and ask relevant questions.
The Dunmanians, on their part, developed a greater sense of admiration for ESM Goh and were inspired to continue to learn more about national and international affairs so that they may be able to give back to society, just as ESM Goh has.
