ASEAN School Games 2019
The ASEAN School Games (ASG) is an annual competition for student athletes from countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). For this year, the 11th ASG was hosted by Indonesia from 17 to 25 July 2019 under the authority of the ASEAN Schools Sports Council (ASSC).
Four of our Dunmanian athletes had the privilege to represent Singapore in their respective sports:
- Lim En Ning (6C34) representing Track & Field (Long Jump)
- Kriston Choo Jun Hao (5C21) representing Badminton
- Delphine Sim Yingting (5C36) representing Volleyball
- Tanya Phan (5C46) representing Volleyball
Kriston was also appointed Captain of the ASG Badminton Boys Singapore Team.
In support of our Dunmanian athletes, our school organised an Athletes’ Send-Off ceremony hosted by our Sports Leader Daryl Koh Han Boon (5C31) on 16 July 2019.
During the games, our four athletes strove hard to do their best for Singapore. After competing against many talented ASEAN school athletes, Lim En Ning achieved a 5th Individual Placing in Long Jump. En Ning reflects on her achievement:
“ASEAN School Games (ASG) has given me an unforgettable and invaluable experience. It was amazing to see how disciplined and committed everyone was to the sport, both Team Singapore as well as the other ASEAN teams. Having to juggle with academics and training has always been tough and this was especially so in the June holidays when both academics and training picked up in intensity. However, the whole journey and experience was nothing short of fulfilling. It has really pushed me to become a more disciplined athlete, and getting to meet people with similar passions inspires me to want to work even harder. To genuinely enjoy the process instead of being overly focused on the result has allowed me to appreciate many moments along the journey too.”
We congratulate our four athletes and the Singapore Schools contingent for their excellent results!
