BSPY5 Shanghai, China
From 27th May to 17th June 2012, 23 Y5 Bicultural Studies Programme (SAP) Scholars travelled to Shanghai, China for a three-week Study Immersion Programme.
Participants had the opportunity to study under local professors in the renowned Fudan University. The professors provided valuable guidance and input for their H2 China Studies (Chinese). Throughout the two-week long attachment at Fudan, participants experienced life as an undergraduate student in Fudan University.
In addition, participants also visited another renowned university in Shanghai—Shanghai Jiaotong University. They even had the opportunity to learn from professors from different faculties, including one of China’s top physicists, Liu Ying.
The Immersion Programme also featured a one-day visit to Suzhou, during which they witnessed the breathtaking scenery that the city is known for around the world. In Shanghai, they also visited many places of interest, including the Oriental Pearl Tower and The Bund. Participants also visited several transnational corporations located in Shanghai, including the Volkswagen Group (China) and Keppel Land (China), and were given an exclusive look into the culture and operations in these organisations.
This trip provided participants with exclusive insights into the vibrant and ever-changing economic landscape of Shanghai as well as better understanding of the social and political scene in China. Shanghai remains a charming blend of the past and present, as well as the cultures of East and West.
