BSPY5 Shanghai, China
During the June Holidays, our Year 5 Bicultural Studies Programme Scholars flew to Shanghai for a 18-day Study Immersion Programme at Fudan University.
Our BSP Scholars attended a series of lectures in Fudan University, which covered themes including political milestones in the development of post-reform Shanghai and China. They also engaged in intellectual discussions with the professors and lecturers, much like any undergraduate student in Fudan.
Our scholars also visited Jiaotong University of Shanghai, China, where they were introduced to various technological innovations such as 3D-printing. A lecture on the socio-political outlook of contemporary China was also organized for our students.
The BSP Scholars also visited a number of Multi-National Corporations based in Shanghai, e.g. the Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co. Ltd, Shanghai Baosteel Group Corporation as well Singapore’s very own BreadTalk.
The Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower, which towers 276 metres, left a very deep impression in our students. They were awed by the mesmerizing scenery from the tower overlooking the Pudong Area and the Bund. In short, Shanghai features an old-world charm integrated in one of the most modern cityscapes of the world.
At the end of the trip, our Principal, Dr. Foo Suan Fong, led a visit to Jinshan High School of Shanghai. Students and teachers of Jinshan greeted the BSP delegation with a warm welcome, following which students from both schools engaged in thematic discussions that focused on the education systems of Singapore and China.
They say time passes the fastest when one is the happiest. Such words are indeed true for the time spent at Shanghai.
