Home Team Scholarship Award Ceremony 2019
The Singapore Police Force Scholarship and Home Team Scholarship Award Ceremony was held on 5 August 2019 at the Istana. Two Dunman High students received the Local Merit Scholarship from Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law. They are:
– Tan Yuan En (18Y6C13)
– Jade Chan Ting Shuen (18Y6C33)
The Local Merit Scholarship supports highly qualified and promising individuals with an undergraduate education at a local university before starting their careers in one of the Home Team Departments. They will be given opportunities to take on leadership positions in the Home Team.
Here’s what Yuan En and Jade have to say about their award.
“It’s my honour and pleasure to receive the Local Merit Scholarship with the Singapore Prisons Service (SPS). Since young, I’ve aspired to serve in a uniformed service and I hope to contribute to the rehabilitation efforts of SPS. As many people still have a misconception about ex-offenders, I believe it is of utmost importance to unlock society’s second prison. I encourage juniors interested in a scholarship to not just understand the basics of the scholarship, but also what they hope to achieve in life. I feel that finding purpose in a job outweighs the monetary value of a scholarship.” – Tan Yuan En (18Y6C13)
“I am greatly honoured to receive the Local Merit Scholarship. I was fortunate to have discovered my passion early which allowed me to take steps towards realising my dream of becoming a police officer. This scholarship offers me an opportunity to contribute to the safety and security of Singapore. I would like to thank my family, friends and teachers in Dunman High for being ever-supportive. I am very excited to start my new phase of life and play a part in safeguarding our community. To my juniors, follow your passion and work hard towards achieving your goal!” – Jade Chan Ting Shuen (18Y6C33)
The Dunman High family extends our heartiest congratulations to Yuan En and Jade!
