STEP Homestay, Thailand
From November 3rd to 11th, Dunman High School went on our annual Singapore-Thailand Exchange Programme (STEP) to Rayongwittayakom School. 18 students went to Rayong, Thailand where they were attached to a Thai buddy and went about life as a Thai student. Our DHS students got to experience life as Thai teenagers as they stayed with their buddy and went to the same classes as them.
This STEP trip coincided with the Thai Loy Krathong Festival where our students were taught how to make a krathong using banana leaves and how to release it in the river to wish for blessings. This was an insightful cultural lesson as our students got to understand Thai culture better.
Another highlight of the STEP trip was participating in Rayongwittayakom School’s Annual Sports Day. The school has a tradition of marching a 3km route around town to showcase their colourful floats and costumes and our students took part in the revelry as the Singapore delegation.
At the end of the trip, many lasting friendships were forged and our students were very touched by the hospitality shown to them by their host families. We cannot wait to host our Thai guests when they visit us next year!
