Criteria on Musical / Dance Achievements

Musical Instruments

  • # Attainment of Grade 7 (Distinction) or Grade 8 in piano or violin
  • # Attainment of Grade 6 in viola, cello, double bass or harp
  • # Attainment of Grade 5 in a woodwind or brass instrument or voice
  • # Attainment of Grade 5 in a Chinese musical instrument

Shortlisted candidates are required to

  • Take a Selection Test consisting of Music Theory and Musical Perception.
  • Perform 2 contrasting pieces or movements appropriate to their stage of development.

  • Can demonstrate various percussion techniques and rhythms
  • Shortlisted candidates are to demonstrate various percussion techniques and rhythms in minimum 4 minutes of performing time

  • # Attainment of Grade 3 in voice, or
  • Has sung in a choir consecutively for at least 2 years
  • Students must provide proof of participation with an official letter together with the choir conductor’s full name and contact number.
  • Shortlisted candidates are to perform 2 contrasting pieces or movements appropriate to their stage of development.

  • Students must be willing to learn a relevant instrument in the assigned CCA

* Among the strings, only cello and double bass may be considered for Chinese Orchestra and Symphonic Band.

Dance

  • # Attainment of any grade in dance
  • Shortlisted candidates are to perform a 3 minute dance item that will demonstrate rhythm, timing, expression, flexibility, grace and passion for dance.

# Students must provide proof of qualifications as supporting documents.

Please note that:

  • Candidates who have been shortlisted for Performing Arts and/or MEP auditions are to bring along their own instruments and backing music where required.
  • Shortlisted Dance candidates should attend auditions in appropriate dance attire.
  • NO INSTRUMENTS WILL BE PROVIDED DURING AUDITION EXCEPT PIANO AND PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS.
